There's a nice interview on First Up about her. Any more than that, and you're asking too much. Shes an up and coming Swedish rapper. She is married to the ever popular and charming South African electro specialist, Spoek Mathambo. The story of their meeting goes something like he was running late for a show in NYC and they split a cab. Boring and unromantic, I know.

Well, short post today. She released a single Saturday produced by Germany's own Schlachthofbronx which is a playful tune about, well, the name says it all. And the cover art is a picture of the 'ol gal with her brother. Thats not adorable. It's ridiculous. A video is expected soon.

Breakbot is one Frenchy under label Ed Banger Records (Ed Rec) that you have heard of. If not, I'm just not sure we are cool with each other. Breakbot has releases on labels Because Music and Moshi Moshi Records as well.

I can't remember how I came across this "dude", but it seemingly happened. That happens often when I am indiscriminately surfing the webs. (I feel like someday soon that phrase "surfing the web" will become extinct. Its already endangered. Google is damaging our fabricated internet vocabulary environment/economy. Maybe not?) Nonetheless, I find myself frustrated, sweaty and exhausted, having blacked-out for the last thirty minutes with nothing to show for my time, except two half-read articles on The Economist, half a liter of undigested milk, apparently, waging a battle in my upper intestines and some strange hipster/electronic artist staring at me as if he is about to hunt and eat me like a tiger from out of my browser screen.

Either way, somehow, I came across dj/producer Myd.

Straight from French label Club Cheval's website:

"Myd is a fresh young Dj and producer based in Lille, France. Discovered by the Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team, Myd is playlisted by the biggest names in the techno/electro field. And I should note for the record that, in context, it it sometimes more appropriate to refer to 'African Riddims'. It even has its own wikiedia page. I'm glad we got that settled.

Myd is on French label Cheval and recently, up-and-coming Marble Players. His music (a asarce number of originals with a hefty quantity of remixes thus far) bring a different sound than Marble counterparts Bobmo and Surkin. With less of the repetitive treble highs and a powerful, bass-driven beat, you get the dirty-dirty of club music accompanied by the high pitched 'Riddims' reminiscent of african-inspired South American music.

Like the steel drums. Or the accordion. No, it's more of the club sirens inspired by those instruments.

I wonder how many people in a packed Brazilian nightclub(disco's they call 'em. Ridiculous.) have actually run out of the disco when sirens blare in a song. "Holy crap, the disco's on fire!" No doubt that no one, ever, has done this. But I live in a make believe world. It's all about the air-horn nowadays anywhos. For airhorn, check out Germany's own Schlachthofbronx. Giant air-horn.

Treasure Fingers has done great work for years. I am aware that this song has made the rounds in the blogosphere. But, I think it's just brilliant. Like that great book you read in high school and want to re-read every couple of years. Or like the disco from next door. See what I did there, eh? Like, girl next door? But it's an 80's disco. Eh?!? Or maybe elevator music, where the elevator is a montage of a roller disco movie. And everyone is sporting an afro. And there's that girl from accounting next to you that you never had just the right opportunity to talk to. And then the elevator gets stuck and you just remembered that you have no reception and there's no phone in the elevator, but you brought an extra sandwich if she would like one and that you unexpectedly left Yahtzee in your backpack from that trip you took across the town to Sarah and Michelle's last weekend and would she like to play, oh, of course? I love Yahtzee, too!

Kind of like that. Like a great day.

Just better if you put it on repeat. And then you can forget that you work-space is located in remodeled one-story garage and that every girl in accounting is married and looks like an ageing Hillary Clinton who shops at Lane Bryant, you hate Yahtzee and that you never have enough time in the morning to make your lunch. And that you have never looked good 'sporting an afro'. It's a cruel, cruel world we live in.

On another note, I believe Treasure Fingers has released label Kitsune, which I should learn more about because they are tied to every electronic artist residing in the northern hemisphere. I think they sell clothing on their site, too. Totally blows my mind. I will investigate and report too you, faithfully, the mystery of all things french-music label-y. That's straight from the AP Stylebook, by the way. Label-y.

As you may have heard, Teki Latex's label, Institubes, is no longer. After producing albums for electro celebrities Bobmo, Para One, Surkin and Midnight Juggernauts over the past seven years, they are closing up shop.

Enter Marble Players. Their new website gives a sneak peak into their origins:

"As you probably heard recently, Marble is a new dance label launched by Para One, Surkin and Bobmo. We already told you these three have began sharing recording space less than a year ago, and soon spent some time jamming and producing together. Surkin and Bobmo already had their High Powered Boys project, but this new unit, christened Marble Players, is a bit more hardware-oriented, and involves multiple analog/digital mutations ; a typical day in the studio would be Bobmo coming up with a vocal digital sample, then Para replaying it on his SP12, then giving it back to Surkin so he can add his own Reason-based beats – you get the picture. Generally, there’s a just a strong taste for manipulating sound as a physical thing in the way Marble Players play."

I have been a fan of the Bobmo and Surkin duo, High Powered Boys, for awhile, and since they have teamed up with Para One, it seems they have only gotten better. Check you out some Marble Players.

Well, I don't love dancing babies, but Uffie lends her charm in this ad for 'Evian'.

Adorably hilarious.

I did get the chance to watch Rubber last night. I can absolutely understand the disappointments by many. The pointless asides were at times distracting, although it increased the level of suspense and overall drama of the film methinks. In the end Dupiex's shot selection and editing made this an extremely memorable film. Catch it July 1st on Netflix.

Bird Man

Mr. Oizo's pseudonym purportedly is a corruption of the French Oiseau, meaning "bird". You may know know him for the production of many bangers for fellow Ed Rec label-mate, Uffie.

Quentin Dupiex is no one-trick pony, however. Known for the Levi ad campaign which featured cuddly creature "Flat Eric", Dupiex is an experienced producer as well as director and film-maker. Foreign language 'Steak' debuted in France in 2007 while his strange and quirky music videos never cease to surprise in their ingenuity and purposefully rakish movement and camera angles.

Black humor/horror "Rubber" was released in 2010, with the soundtrack (composed by Oizo himself and Gaspard of Justice) being released on the same month on Ed Banger Records.
Sporting a wide array of mixed reviews the movie is set to be release on Netflix for instant viewing on July 1st, 2011.

You should, like, totally watch it.

You might have seen Tensnake's video for the song 'Coma Cat'. The song is great, the video is even better. As one of the comment read, 'Booze-stealing lesbians, doesn't get better than that'. Forgive me, I'm going to have to get used to simple html again before I can post in anything other than barely-readable elementary school level prose.

I haven't posted in a bit, and for that, I apologize. A lot has changed since the last third or fourth last post and I am still getting used to that. One thing that hasn't, however, is my most righteous taste in muzikz. First off, SXSW is coming up, and nothing gets me more excited than this festival. A mile of bars on both sides of the street, not knowing where to crash, getting kicked out of bars, and seeing your favorite electro celebrities. Among my favorites it the line up are Uffie and Malente, which alone is worth the trip. Norman Music Festival is coming up as well, more to come about that later.

I was shocked to hear that one of my favorite electro artists of all time is just 19. Fellow Institubes (Surkin, Orgasmic, Curses!) and Parisian, Bobmo has created a really independent sound in his short walk on earth. Straight from his myspace:

"BOBMO is a young (17) producer hailing from the hyperactive city of Paris via the even more hyper city of Bordeaux. While in high school, with no musical training, he launched a short-lived rap career, making beats on his Playstation (no, really!), spitting awkward tales of murder and woe."

Sounds like a normal, goofy kid. But truly a men among electro boys, He travels Europe with the Ed Rec gang and fellow young Institubers, such as Surkin, touring the huge club scene. You really must hear this. Incomparable at the least.

If you ask Party Time 2000 he'll pretty much give you every song you've ever wanted. Seriously he'll send you a zip drive of many must haves. Producer/ DJ from the streets of Chi-town, he knows how to put together a remix let's just say.

Its very interesting to listen to what I assume to be many of soem of his first tunes. Quenticentially Chip-tune, it delivers the Nintendo-aerospace childhood dreams of the 8-Bit early nineties.

You can see the move he smoothly made incorporating main stream rap into a Nintendo remix. He makes it at least bearable for the even the conservative listener.

A perfect strike at seamlessly weaving main stream pop music with a touch of electro nostalgia to create a fresh sound.

So, if you like top 40 rap and game boy mario monophonic, then this is for you.

Of Montreal is one of my top three all time favorite bands, so my witnessing of their second coming (ha!) to Norman is a treat. The second Norman Music Festival promises to be a grand slam.

STORY!!!

So, At Lollapalooza two years ago, I had the opportunity to read about CSS in the official program on the hour long elevated rail ("L") ride from our hotel by the the airport to the site of Lolla, Grant Park. As it turns out, I had missed their performance. But by chance, they were playing a DJ set at the Debonair Social Club later that night. Mind you, I didn't know exactly who CSS was at that moment, as this was a swell year before their scene-breaking iPod Commercial where they really made a name for themselves. But when I had read "five Brazilian art school girls", I was sold, immediately. I thought to myself, "I have to see this, at all costs."

So , to make a long story short, I go (by myself mind you - my friends went to see some jam band), hyphy'd up on an entire fask of gin (Tangueray - The black guy in the commercials was hilarious) and a pipe or two o' dro, only to find out they had missed their flight, and the festival all together. Not an entire loss, however, because Colt 45 was hosting the party and I proceeded to get shit-faced on their tab. I met a photographer which whom I exchanged a great deal of pleasantries with, only to later find out it was the one-and-only ShadowScene.

They did have a DJ however, were I was introduced to the hypnotizing sounds of Green Velvet for the first time in a moment I will never forget. I meet a hobo on the way home whom I apparently gave all my money to, and proceeded to get lost for seven hours in downtown Chicago, wandering the streets by myself, like a hobo. Oh, the irony. Yes. So, I stopped by a McD's on the way to grab Sausage McMuffin and directions to find that I didn't have a cent for the rest of the trip.

But, hey, ..at least I was high.

Indeed, I really felt close to the ol' rompin' grounds of house music being in a pretentious indie bar in Wicker Park off the Damen stop of the "L". It was a religious experience of sorts for me. A definite must-stop next time you visit Chicago.

So I might have an obsession with French dancer Lectra that borders on the unhealthy, but hey, .. shes of age at least. .. now. If its anything that can really get me going, its under-educated girls taking their neon-brite clothes off to electro. Bottom line. You tell me you wouldn't.

So here is another video that, while being humorously stereotypic of young girls and at the same time a little gay, has some pretty neat effects and features barely legal French chicks taking off their shirts. I threw up a little in my mouth reading Bass Kleph's Bio. What a self-righteous tool. I mean you would think he had to at least sign off on the commentary on his site. Jesus. Yes, It says something to the extent of, "Bass Kleph is really Jesus. Really. He solved global warming and aids with his upcoming album, and its not even released yet."

Its worth checking out.

But there is a point here for me to make. While it seems hes stuck on having you pay for his videos (WTF?) you can find him on the internetz. Where he seems commercialized and predictable in his pop remixes, he jumps out and defines himself in his more obscure works. A truly unique sound, this aussy uses tweaks and deep rumbling bass that are not unfamiliar to us. Squeaky soap meets early 90's techno, he brings a side to the electro scene that is truly fun and bassy. It really gets under you.

Well there is that saying, If you're going to go, go hard. But thats also what she said.

So I'll continue to blog like people are listening. I imagine I'd probably blog at this rate if I knew ten thousand or so people read my blog a day. Well maybe a hundred.. thousand.

So well keep going at this rate until we reach a nice and steady three posts a month or so. I kid.

First I feel the neccessity to delve into my obsession with Tecktonik. Of couse as all Tecktonik observers go, I found my way across the French version of caucassion hip-hop pop and lock via the Yelle video, "A Cause Des Garcons" remixed by TEPR which features the tecktonik group that includes dancers Treaxy, Vavan , and Fredou. I had the pleasure of meeting the leads cousin at University, where he was a ballet transfer student, but he couldn't speak a lick of english. All we could say was "Yelle" and "Tecktonik" to each other, and it was great, cause he seemed boring. Kidding Johan!

I was facinated and eventually went on a soul searching mission for all the coked out dancing I could find, since it went along with my music, and months later, I discovered that the womenz actually partook in this dance. Hot womenz.

Needless to say, I was in love. I found Tecktonik dancer Lecktra.

If you havent seen the TEPR video im talking about, I think it has about 15 Million plays, so czech that shit out if you haven't. It would be hard to miss.

Stereoheroes is another French Production Duo, reminiscent of Sharkslayer and other bands incorporating the heart of 8-Bit chip tunes, with the up-beat tempo and format of the more popular Dub-Step. Similar to the baile-funk inspired enthusiasts of Brasilian Disco music, Stereoheroes uses a permeating accordian like lead that eerily reminds me of Northern European producers and DJ's Zombie Disco Squad and others (Read: Oh Snap!!). So, I was here thinking of what to post on my Freshman blog when I happened to take a gander at the new itunes top songs list, which is, by itself, an albatross sighting for me.

Who was number one you ask?

None but the all-too-burlesque Lady Gaga with her new-ish single, Just Dance.

Normally I wouldnt give a hoots hoot (not sure what thats supposed to mean) about pop music lists, but I have been a huge personal advocate of the whatever-hair-color-fits-me-today champion in the past. I saw the chique chic at Lollapalooza back in the summer of '07 amidst a small crowd of other chronic masturbaters. On a small stage tucked into the back of whatever badass park that Chicago calls its own (Grant Park it seems), Gaga laid it all out there, and the only reason I was there was, well I saw her picture in the program. Hott. As for her show..

Blown away, I was.

To make a long story short, here is a picture of her on stage in August in Chicago:

The dufus with shitty hair being a creeper.. That's me. But durka-durr! She looked smokin' I remember the first thing she did was to get half naked, turn around, bend over and touch the floor over a blaring drumroll soundtrack. Now thats a stage presence.

My point is, How do you go from unfathomably hott, elite indie chic, to pop sensation american sellout in the eyes of this guy? Well for starters, get sony's number one producer by your side, then sing with Akon or the imfamous T-Pain, whose involvement with Kanyes new album has sent his record sales THROUGH THE ROOF! Sarcasm. So, basically slather yourself with pop-rap icons and sing whatever gooey love song multi-millionaire producers throw your way. You catch more chronic masturbaters with gooey pop-rap than you do with sloppy, honey soaked electro-strippers apparently.

So, no more about this once amazingly attractive slutty appearing (the good kind) stylish indie chic, here is why I'm pissed: the kick assness of her 1st un-label produced single:
